It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Rodney Henry Hinton of Bay Springs on Dec. 24, 2023 at his residence. Born on Sept. 14, 1939, Rodney was a cherished son, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents Bilbo and Vernetta Roney Hinton of Gitano; his sister Patricia Ann Pitts; his father-in-law Don Jones; mother-in-law Myrtis Jones; and his brothers-in-law Larry Jones and Ronald Brady.

Rodney leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years Rachel Deloris Jones; their son David Hinton (Angela); and his granddaughters Lakin Alexandra Hinton and Halle Nicole Hinton, who were the apple of Rodney's eye and a source of immense pride. He would often share heartwarming stories about them, reflecting his deep love and affection. He is also survived by numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces and their children, all of whom he deeply loved.

After honorably serving in the Army, Rodney dedicated his life to his career in telecommunications, first with the Bay Springs Telephone Company and then with the Colonial Group. His commitment and hard work over four decades positively impacted many rural communities.

Rodney's life was marked by hard work, dedication and sacrifice for his family. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he cherished the time spent sharing stories about his granddaughters. His hobbies were primarily focused on his family.

A committed Christian, Rodney actively participated in the Springhill Baptist Church community, embodying the principles of his faith through his actions and relationships.

The family extends special thanks to Carolynn Welborne for her loving care and support.

Rodney will be honored with a visitation at Colonial Chapel at 311 4th Ave. in Bay Springs on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a burial in Union Line Cemetery. The officiant for the funeral services will be announced at a later date. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
