Foodies are devastated by the loss of popular TV chef Dave Myers.
The Hairy Bikers star passed away aged 66 after a lengthy cancer battle – but his beloved recipes will live on for generations.
One of his best-loved dishes, created alongside co-star Si King, is the sausage casserole. It's become a staple in British households as it's tasty and takes less than 30 minutes to prepare.

Hairy Bikers sausage casserole recipe
Ingredients you'll need
- Cooking oil of your choice
- Pork sausages
- Steak bacon
- Two onions
- Garlic
- Chilli powder
- Chopped tomatoes
- Chicken stock
- Tomato puree
- Worcestershire sauce
- Dark sugar
- Dried mixed herbs
- Bay leaves
- Fresh thyme
- White wine
- Butter beans
- Bread to serve
Method
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large non-stick frying pan or casserole dish. Gently fry the sausages for 10 minutes, turning them occasionally until they're nicely browned all over.
- Then, move them to a large saucepan or a flameproof casserole dish and set aside.
- Next, fry the bacon in the frying pan until it starts to brown and crisp, then add it to the dish with the sausages.
- Add the onions to the frying pan and fry them over a medium heat for 5 minutes until they start to soften, stirring often. If there isn't enough fat in the pan, add a little more oil.
- Add the garlic and cook for 23 minutes until the onions turn pale golden brown, stirring frequently.
- Sprinkle over the chilli powder and cook together for a few seconds longer.
- Stir in the tomatoes, stock, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and herbs. Pour in the wine, or some water if you're not using wine, and bring to a simmer.
- Carefully tip the tomato mixture into the pan with the sausages and bacon and return to a simmer. Reduce the heat, cover the pan loosely with a lid and leave to simmer very gently for 20 minutes, stirring from time to time.
- Stir the beans into the casserole, and continue to cook for 10 minutes, mixing occasionally, until the sauce is thick.
- Finally, season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper and serve with rice or slices of rustic bread.
Dave, who was born in Barrow-in-Furness, rose to fame alongside Si King 20 years ago on the hit food-making show. The wholesome duo were known to fans for travelling around the UK and the world on their motorbikes while sampling and cooking mouth-watering dishes on the BBC programme.
Sharing the sad news in a statement on X formerly known as Twitter, Si expressed that he will miss his friend dearly. In a lengthy statement, he wrote: "I'm afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.
"Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave's wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing.
"His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own. Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment."
Si continued: "My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can't follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.
"I wish you God's speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya."
